Featured Images AI

Pro / Agency. Create featured images from post title and content using OpenAI image models (DALL·E 3, DALL·E 2, GPT Image 1).

You pay OpenAI directly (BYOK). Image generation costs much more than metadata — typically €0.04–0.12 per image depending on model and size.

Enable

Settings → Featured image AI

• ☑ Show featured image generator in post editor
• Image model and size (default DALL·E 3 landscape 1792×1024)
• Visual style preset + optional custom style prompt
• ☑ Also generate ALT/title/caption/description for the new attachment
• ☑ Auto-generate on publish when missing
• Generate featured images for missing posts — background job for existing posts

Requires Save & Test API key.

Post editor

Block editor (Gutenberg)

Sidebar panel: Generate featured image from content — uses current title/body.

Classic editor

Meta box AI featured image in the sidebar.

Flow:

1. AI generates image from prompt built from title + content + style settings
2. Uploads to Media Library
3. Sets _thumbnail_id immediately

Auto-generate on publish

When enabled, publishing/updating a published post without featured image triggers generation once (if title or content exists).

Publishing may take longer while the image API runs.

Fill missing posts (bulk)

Settings → Featured image AI → Generate featured images for missing posts

• Counts published posts (with thumbnail support) lacking featured image
• Starts background job — one post per batch
• Uses same style/model as settings

Use after migrating old content or for batch SEO/visual refresh.

Prompt construction

The plugin builds a prompt from:

• Post title and excerpt/content (trimmed)
• Style preset (photography, illustration, regional aesthetics, etc.)
• Your custom style prompt (colors, mood, no people, etc.)

Tune presets for consistent site look.

Tips

1. Start with one post in editor before bulk fill.
2. Set OpenAI spend limit — 100 posts ≈ significant cost.
3. Enable metadata for new image so ALT is not empty.
4. Style prompt “no text, no logos, no watermarks” reduces bad generations.
